FedNor Grants Habitat $70,000

Today the federal Minister of Tourism, Official Languages, and la francophonie, Melanie Joly, appeared in Timmins to announce the FedNor grant to the Cochrane Polar Bear Habitat to conduct a feasibility study and business plan towards building a new research and teaching facility.

Executive Director, Michael Honeth was in attendance to speak with Madame Joly about what she called “a cause very close to her heart.”

The Habitat’s reputation for staff expertise and knowledge has grown in the global academic community over the years, and it is time to develop a matching infrastructure. With combined grants from FedNor and the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corporation, and additional financial support from the Town of Cochrane, the study will begin this month, and hopefully lead directly to a construction campaign over the next few years.
