The Polar Bear Habitat Board of Directors are a hands-on, results-driven group of individuals who draw upon their skills in business, marketing, law, animal care, fund raising and government to steer the direction and create a sustainable future for the facility.
Robert W. Buchanan
A retired marketing director from Joseph E. Seagram & Sons, Robert and his wife, Carolyn, founded Polar Bears International in 2002, transforming it from a small organization of polar bear enthusiasts to a conservation group with worldwide impact. Robert served as president & CEO of PBI USA & Canada from 2002 until his retirement in 2013. Robert’s vision is to help the world understand the importance of the arctic ecosystems and to inspire individuals to take urgent action to reduce greenhouse gas emissions to conserve polar bears and countless other species worldwide. His home is in Alaska.
Dr. Suzanne E. MacDonald
Dr. MacDonald is currently a professor in the Department of Psychology at York University, appointed to the graduate programs in both Psychology and Biology. She received her PhD in animal learning and behaviour from the University of Alberta, and then did postdoctoral work at the University of British Columbia, before moving to York in 1990. In addition to maintaining an active research and teaching career, Suzanne has held several senior administrative positions at York, including Associate Vice President (Research), and most recently, five years as Chair of the Department of Psychology.
Daniel E. Vukovich
Mr. Vukovich holds an Honours Degree in Economics and a Bachelor of Laws Degree from Queen’s University in Kingston. Called to the Bar of Ontario in 1987, Mr. Vukovich practiced in the areas of Corporate and Commercial and Insolvency law with two large Toronto law firms before joining Pizza Pizza Limited as in-house counsel in 1991. In over 16 years with Pizza Pizza he assumed additional responsibilities as a member of the senior executive team. In 2005 Mr. Vukovich was named Chief Operating Officer, the year that Pizza Pizza completed a highly successful public offering of the Pizza Pizza Royalty Income Fund on the Toronto Stock Exchange. After leaving Pizza Pizza in 2007, he provided business consulting services before joining M&M Meat Shops Ltd. as Vice President and Legal Counsel in 2010.
Laura is a former employee of Microsoft and is active in the philanthropy community with husband, Norm Lamarche. Laura and her family live in Toronto, Ontario.
A Town of Cochrane Councillor and community leader, Renelle is actively involved in many Cochrane events and activities.
An employee of Ontario Northland Rail and entrepreneur, Dean recently produced the Polar Bear Habitat’s first fund raising gala event and is an active advocate of all things Cochrane.
