Foundation Board

   The Polar Bear Habitat Board of Directors are a hands-on, results-driven group of individuals who draw upon their skills in business, marketing, law, animal care, fund raising and government to steer the direction and create a sustainable future for the facility.


A native of Cochrane, Ontario, JP Bradette is a senior business development executive and chemical engineer with experience in the energy, chemicals, forest products, and manufacturing sectors.

As the Principal of BCS Consulting, he consults to the renewable energy and manufacturing industries and has led corporate development initiatives in both the forest products and manufacturing sectors. Most recently, JP led the business development efforts for Northland Power in Canada, Mexico, and South America. In addition, he has held a variety of senior management roles with Canadian companies such as Tembec, Ontario Power Generation, Abitibi-Consolidated, and Dow Chemical.

On his time off, he enjoys the cottage with his family, riding motorcycles and snowmobiles, and playing a little guitar in a part-time band.

Dr. Suzanne E. MacDonald

   Dr. MacDonald is currently a professor in the Department of Psychology at York University, appointed to the graduate programs in both Psychology and Biology. She received her PhD in animal learning and behaviour from the University of Alberta, and then did postdoctoral work at the University of British Columbia, before moving to York in 1990. In addition to maintaining an active research and teaching career, Suzanne has held several senior administrative positions at York, including Associate Vice President (Research), and most recently, five years as Chair of the Department of Psychology.

Barb Duffin

  Barb is the Director of the Information Services Department (CreeGeo) at Mushkegowuk Council in Timmins, ON. She has a B.A. (Geography & Fine Art), Cartographic Technology Diploma and a Master’s Degree in Graphic Design. She has over 27 years of GIS experience in the fields of agriculture, forestry, municipal and landuse planning. Over the past seven years, Barb has worked with members of the Mushkegowuk First Nations to build their GIS capacity to assist with responses to resource development and environmental concerns. Away from the office, Barb enjoys travelling with her family and developing her skills as a watercolour artist.

Laura Lamarche

   Laura is a former employee of Microsoft and is active in the philanthropy community with husband, Norm Lamarche. Laura and her family live in Toronto, Ontario.

Renelle Belisle

   A Town of Cochrane Councillor and community leader, Renelle is actively involved in many Cochrane events and activities.

Dean Breathat

   An employee of Ontario Northland Rail and entrepreneur, Dean recently produced the Polar Bear Habitat’s first fund raising gala event and is an active advocate of all things Cochrane.
